Peter Snowden’s mare Trim secured victory in the Group 3 Research Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday, showing her spring potential by overcoming a wide barrier draw to defeat a top field of rivals.
Ridden by Blake Shinn, Trim ($7.50) had no issues jumping on the far outside from barrier 15 and went hard and fast to the line defeating the Gai Waterhouse-trained Montana Flyer ($10), who lead up until the straight, and odds-on favourite Girl Hussler ($4.60), who finished in a dead heat for second, by a long neck.
Betting against the favourite at Sportsbet paid well for punters in the Research Stakes and is always a good betting tip!
A four-year-old daughter of Lonhro, Trim improved vastly from her first-up seventh in the Corncorde Stakes last month and has now won three of her 10 career starts for $303,450 in prizemoney.
Snowden is looking towards the Listed Nivison (1200m) at Randwick on September 25 for Trim’s next start before a possible trip to Melbourne for a race during the Cup Carnival is also on the cards.
The two other highlight races at Rosehill on Saturday were the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1400m) where Gai Waterhouse’s star mare More Joyous claimed a comprehensive win, and the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) won by another from the Waterhouse stable, Melbourne Cup hopeful Herculian Prince.
