The Sydney Spring Racing Carnival is one of the elite periods of racing in the New South Wales capital. One feature is the Group Three Research Stakes which is a spring race over 1200 metres.

The Research Stakes is a quality handicap for fillies and mares three-years-old and over at the stunning Rosehill Racecourse. The Research Stakes traditionally took place towards the beginning of September along with the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes (1300m) and the Group 3 Kingston Town Stakes (2000m). However, from 2011 the Research Stakes race name has changed to The Golden Pendant and will now run in later September on the same day as the Group 2 Stan Fox Stakes and be worth $250,000.

One race keen punters should keep an eye on in the lead up to the Research Stakes is the Listed Sheraco Stakes (1100m) which takes place two weeks beforehand. Many fillies and mares will target the Research Stakes if they performed well in the Sheraco Stakes.
